What's Communicating Transition Effectively all about?

Upon reflecting on his personal transition, one of my pastors told me that succession planning was essentially an exercise in organizational communication. I could not agree more! A well thought through communication plan will go a long way to instill confidence in your process and inspire hope for the future trajectory of the ministry.

Leaders navigating this succession conversation must answer the following questions:

  • Who are we communicating with?
  • What do they need to know?
  • When do they need to know it?
  • What is the best way to tell them?
  • What would we like them to do in response to what we have shared?
